CHULA VISTA � One man was killed and two others were arrested early Monday after a shootout with a security guard at a Chula Vista Apple Store.
Police said the trio broke into the store at the Otay Ranch Town Center on Birch Road just before 7 a.m., said police Capt. Gary Ficacci.
The security guard told officers he was in his vehicle outside the business when he saw two men and a woman smash the store's front windows, Ficacci said. The store manager was inside.
The guard confronted them and at least one of the men took out a handgun and threatened him, and a gun battle ensued, Ficacci said.
The trio then got into a small car and started to drive away but the male driver was mortally wounded and the car crashed into a light pole.
The other man and the woman got out of the car and ran. They were found about 8 a.m. hiding on a patio in a residential neighborhood across the street, Ficacci said.
Nearby schools were locked down as a precaution, but those restrictions have been lifted.
The eastern portion of the mall remains closed because of the investigation.
Police were still sorting out the details and have not said how many shots were fired. One gun was found on the dead man. Another was found on the man taken into custody.
The names of those involved have not been released. The security guard and the store manager were not harmed, police said.

Seems unfair to kill someone for robbery. Yes they're breaking the law, but only deserve a prison sentence. Do you really really think someone should be shot and killed for attempting to steal a few laptops and smash a few windows? If you do then man you have issues.

Shouldn't the thread's title have a question at the end? Regardless of how 'reliable' the source may be, it's still a rumor and should be regarded as such.

Looks to me like a combined MS/Nokia actually LOSES marketshare. (26.4% down to 21.1%) - funny how the 'report' doesn't spin the numbers that way. I do find it humorous that these analysts think they can see 2015 with any semblance of accuracy.

i've been patiently waiting for the MBP to be updated before i ordered but wanted to jump on the iPod deal as well which ends the 16th
if one was to place an order and then these are announced the following week, would Apple upgrade you to the comparable machine?
If the new one is announced before your order ships, it will be automatically upgraded. Otherwise, you should return the unopened product within 2 weeks of purchase for a free upgrade.

An iPod update is way overdue. It's been almost a year since the last major iPod update.
I think it's reasonable to say that an iPod update is due. It's hard to argue that an iPod update is "way overdue." Apple times this stuff deliberately, and even if we'd all like flashy new kit every three months, I think they've got the update cycle just about perfect.

On the last page under terms and conditions, it lists the iPods that qualify for the rebate and how much each are worth. Then in a second column there is a different price which goes into effect on 9/12/06. Has the rebate always been printed like this....If anyone has this form printed out prior today, check and see if it is like this one.

Anyway, I think too much of the focus is on the technical details of this mysterious Airport Express box. I'm wondering if Apple's "Big New Thing" isn't so much the gadgets, but the notion of entertainment moving from being something you have shovelled to you from your cable/satellite guy, to a true a la carte system, delivered via the Internet.
What's interesting about the rumours are that they point at products and services that build an infrastructure for something, not products that are particularly interesting by themselves. I can stream media to TVs already (albeit with cables.) I can buy movies, hell, the pr0n industry has pretty much pioneered in this realm and made the concept provable. Less controvertially, there have been attempts to sell movies online serveral times over the last few years. These are all products that already exist.
Apple's products may well actually turn this into a general collection of concepts into a major new drive, in much the same way as DVDs have changed the way we watch TV, and DVRs, and, indeed, twenty-thirty years ago, cable and satellite did.
It'll be interesting to see if they succeed. Don't be surprised if most of the coverage after the event is negative. The real test will be in the coming years.

The way i see it, is that the headshot wasn't point blank but rather unlucky as the robber got to his car before puffing his last breath. Maybe the robber moved his head in the trajectory, maybe the bullet bounced on something. Who knows what happend, but it doesn't sound like an aimed headshot to me.

nothing wrong? and what if she didnt swerve, hit you in the back, and the collision causes the death of, lets say, 1 or 2 people. but you, mr. safe driver felt obligated to teach her a lesson.
In that case, maybe she should have moved. On second thought, that's a little blunt of me. Sure I would feel bad, but I wouldn't be wracked with guilt over it. I only punish people with my antics, when they do something to sufficiently piss me off. Had she not brakechecked me I would have just passed, and gone on my way. But she deserved what I did, and had it caused her death, well I guess she deserved it in a way; bad karma happens for a reason.

After the ROKR and SLVR, is anyone really surprised that Cingular will help launch this phone?
I'm still waiting for this to hit the market. My SLVR is great, and as long as Apple does NOT make a slider, I will buy an iPhone right away.
2007 is going to be spendy. I'll have to buy "iTV", Leopard, "iPhone", and a new portable. AHHH :eek:

I think that because Samsung is a manufacturer of Apple components, their "design" team had more access to the Apple design and user experience than is usually the case. This certainly made it easier for them to copy a good thing but it also made it easier to make the copy too similar to the original.
Did these companies copy each other's netbook designs back when netbooks were supposed to be the next best thing?

No mention of a camera-- I find it strange that Apple wouldn't include one and strange that a description of the phone wouldn't call it out as one of the early bullet items.
But then, I'm an iPhone skeptic so...
I do know that Apple has spread false information to ferret out leaks in the past-- I hope the source doesn't get caught in any kind of trap like that...

because the p910 when released was a $AU1300 phone. i dont want to be paying for that TWICE (no phone is free. u either pay up front or you pay in your monthly contract) if i change carrier. you dont get a new Mac because you change ISP, do you?
If you sign up for two years with one carrier, then you better think harder if you're going to switch a few months later.
But CDMA carriers will unlock your phone. I haven't tried it, but I've heard of Sprint or Verizon unlocking phones. It doen't happen that often since it requires quite a bit of reprogramming, but it's possible.

At this price point and with these features - they may push even more customers away from the mac pro and towards the iMac. Even for some pretty heavy lifting, it's going to be a beast of a machine.
I can say from experience that the i7 SB is a wonderful CPU. It competes with or beats the top end 6 core processors in apps that are not heavily multi-threaded.
It's pretty nice that those dell 30 inchers are almost exactly the same size as the iMac.
Absolutely. If going Mac Pro route you still need 3 ACD's. Going iMac route you just need two ACD's. I still doubt I will need the power of i7 for my PHP/MySQL coding but I will take it. :)
