Geez.... what did they do long ago... have a 400-disc CD changer in their trunk?

    How did they manage?

    :)

Some of us have been on the planet long enough to remember when 8-tracks came to cars that previously only had AM radios. How did we manage? Actually, we got along fined but bringing my own audio along with us just provides more options. Before the iPod, I would typically pick about 15-20 CD's to bring along with me on a road trip. I got along fine, but invariably I would wish that I had made a few different choices, never knowing what mood might strike me. So now I have an 80GB Classic that is about 95% full. Loaded on it are about 11,000 songs, 50-60 podcasts, a couple audiobooks, and maybe a movie or two. Every time the car leaves town, it goes with me. I take it to work every day and plug it into the sound system in my office. I plug it into an old boombox when I am working in the yard or on house projects. I don't need it to surf the web, play games, read email or anything else. It serves my wants perfectly, and though I am not about to claim that I am in the mainstream, I suspect that there are enough of us to keep a device like this profitable for Apple. I've toyed with the idea of selling this one and buying a 160GB but haven't yet. If Apple does choose to make a classic with high capacity, bluetooth, and airplay, I would buy it in a minute.

After watching the ad 3 times, I *think* I like it. It treads just the right sign of 'schmoltzy' without going too far over. It (the device) looks gorgeous too, from a purely personal view.

It hasn't won me over (iPad v Playbook), but there's not doubting its a good ad.

You do realize that the Playbook is pure, 100%, no-money-back, spun-glass vaporware...right?

This story gets buried in the blog and a story of ninja stars makes page one? No Apple bias here.

possibly the dumbest statement of the day (saying alot). Of course there's an Apple bias...it's called MAC rumors....

CR blah blah blah is supposed to be news?

    Wow, that is a shocker.

The U.S. Congress passed a law to prohibit any attempt to assassinate any foreign leader.

Why, I don't know, but there it is.

People and their meroms  Anyone would think the messiah is coming

Imagine Steve Jobs announcing the G6. Its about on par to that. I don't think people realize what Core 2 is going to do for laptops. Faster performance at the same or lower power consumption that is found in the MBP? Yah what's not to like. I just wish my MBP was ZIF socketed. :( Oh well.

But popular culture keeps it at the forefront.

I couldn't agree more. I think what few people realize is that in almost all aspects, WWII was not so much the Second World War, as a continuation of WWI. I

For the US it was definitely our first bright and shining moment on the international stage and it has gained mythological status.

Off Topic from Lybia. In some way I think WWII (or parts of it) has become a bit too mythological. Oh, and I am personally getting tired of hearing "The Greatest Generation" line getting used all the time by prominent figures in the country.

    Back On Topic.

That's a nice Si. Don't believe I've ever seen one in that color. My friend had an '08 Si sedan for about 7 months or so, but had to get a 4WD for work. His was black. It was a BEAST! He put a Skunk2 catback on it and a Weapon R intake and I swear, that thing would scream. It sounded like a Ferrari. I miss it.

    Galaxy Gray Metallic

He's also rocking rims from an acura tsx

Bingo good eye ... Just a FYI I have a Mugen Si exhaust and love it!!

though, likely to be trading to a 2011 Honda Odyssey EX-L in a bit to support the expanding family

    Nice CR-V

I can see many benefits to develop from this. Maybe not on an iMac, but a larger iPad with iMac or Mac Pro power from a designing stand point.

Yes, keep the use of a mouse and/or keyboard for the comfort side of things. But when it comes to intricate design, a mouse is just a pain to use. A Wacom tablet has been around a while and some still use it, but you're pretty much drawing blind folded. If you could use a type of stylus or a finger and draw/edit directly on the screen that would make detail work sooooo much easier and faster.

I think this is a good direction. Who says the iMac will still be a desktop monitor/computer? It could be like the iPad maybe with a popout easel for use as a freestanding monitor (maybe not as cheesy as that, but you get the picture), while still keeping your "all in one" desktop component.

In the meantime, Movielink already offers rental and purchase options, and I read that they will also be allowing you to burn your own DVDs, although I don't know the details.

    This is from their site:

Seems to me the difference between this rumored Apple service and Movielink or Vongo or Moviebeam, et al, is analogous to the difference between the iTMS and Yahoo! Music, Sony Connect, Napster 2.0...

Apple just has a knack for getting it right, and it's by allowing the user the most control. I just don't see the service staying a rental-only venture for very long.

The more publicity on this, the more likely a hack will be developed. I love how many news organizations believe that this open file is some kind of new issue!

There is a reason that some of us Jailbreak, outside of the desire to add applications outside of the appstore.

There are other ways to access data on an iPhone outside of Apple tools. If you think a Passcode is making your phone secure, you are mistaken.

Not being rude at all but please tell me. I really want to know specifics.

Which part, the stock information, typing an email, or working on a spreadsheet? ;)

    It was the brain scans..

Great ad. When they can't compete on specs Apple should try to use fuzzy math (sorry, logic) to convince people that there is more to their products. That's the only way for Apple to keep the profit margin.

Like when your competitors can't compete on usability and applications, they talk about meaningless "features" no one actually cares about.

I'd just like to agree with those who have pointed out that the main thing Apple's monitor division should be worrying about is price, not new sizes - the Apple logo can bear a certain price premium but not that much, especially as they don't yet include Apple-specific goodness such as integrated isight etc.

In October, I considered a 23" ACD at 848 inc. VAT, delivery and 3yrs of Applecare cover.

Instead, I phoned Dell and got the 24" 2407WP for 549.08 inc. VAT, delivery and 4yrs next business day swap-out cover. For the Apple, I would have had to pay a premium of 55% and got 1yr less cover.

Now, as it happens, Dell were running a 25% off special on the 24% in October but these offers are in continual rotation; at the moment, if you ask, you can get:

The 30" 3007WFP for just under a grand inclusive and 4yrs cover, compared to 1,618 for the 30" Apple and 3yrs cover (a premium of 62% and 1yr less cover)

    and

The 20" 2007WFP for 316 inc. and 4yrs cover, compared to 598 for the 20" Apple with 3yrs cover (a premium of 89% and 1yr less cover).

As for quality, I know monitors and the one I've got is top-notch - while it isn't Apple, the subtle styling is impressive and the stand's tilting and pivoting are the best I've ever seen. The consensus among reviewers seems to agree.

I'm not posting this to annoy Apple fans, I'm a huge fan myself and, yes, I would have paid a premium for that cute little apple logo but, frankly, it wouldn't have been worth that extra 55% - at Apple prices, I might never have made the jump to 24" but I'm glad I did, I'm even thinking about getting a second one.

With the move to Intel, Apple have done a great job of competing on PC pricing, why are they still in fantasyland when it comes to monitor pricing?

We probably won't see a Core 2 Mini until but that just fine for me because that's when the Intel GMA X3000 will be ready.

    UPDATE:

It looks like the GMA X3000 is ready to go now, but a Yonah coupled with a X3000 IGP would still make the Mini a great machine.

Yeah, I haven't been able to determine whether this will be the case, or if FCPX will edit AVCHD natively.

You know it. I would even go so far as to say it's ridiculous!

In full disclosure, I've had a borderline man-crush on Obama since he announced he was running for POTUS... but when I heard about this UN resolution, my heart just sank. Eight years of Bush "forcefully spreading the gospel of democracy 'round the world" idiocy and we appear to have learned nothing. Nothing. :(

Would you rather have the Libyan people (who have called for help!) slaughtered by Gaddafi?
