Hey thanks for that. I am in Magdalen College, even though I live near Christ Church. It soulnds tricky- but I'll get there!!! Do they do tax exempt for non-Brits. Just in case you know off the top of your head!!! ThanksIt's not too tricky - go up the hill from Magdalen (left branch at the plane roundabout) and it's one left turn at the main traffic lights at the Headington shops; then right at the first or second gap between buildings to get to the staircase).
Yes, most retailers will have a VAT exemption form for foreigners. You fill it in there and they stamp it. I think you still pay the VAT, but claim it back at the airport.
As another poster said, you can get to the Regent Street Apple Store very easily. The Oxford Tube coaches leave Oxford every ten minutes. You can be at Marble Arch in 50 minutes. Walk 5 or six blocks straight up Oxford Street to Regent Street, and the Store is barely a block down on the right.

176/4 just after lunch, Strauss playing well.
England had the start, Australia struck back, Flintoff at the crease on 16...
Bell failed again.
Treskothic played well for his 46.
This is going to be a very tense weekend.

Yes, and the length of an article is a good indication of the accuracy of that article, isn't it?
let me rephrase that: Articles in Wikipedia were about as accurate as articles in Britannica. AND the articles in Wikipedia were significantly longer than the ones in Britannica. In other words: Britannica and Wikipedia were about as accurate, but Wikipedia offered significantly more content.
Clear now?

Me too actually.... i'd get a Macbook too if i could play games decently on it. The integrated graphics card is poo.
What games are you wanting to play, unreal tournament 2004 plays fine 30fps. And in windows Need for Speed Carbon runs fine, San Andreas also play fine. The integrated graphics is alright, you have to keep in mind it is a smallish form factor laptop not designed for games, but it does games reasonably well.

Most people have dynamic IP addresses so how does EyeTV handle it when your IP address changes when you are watching it over the internet (not a local network).
EyeTV has a free service called My EyeTV which resolves the IP. You just need to register with your email address and a password, then within the EyeTV app on the iPhone you enter same and you can connect from anywhere. However, for all this to work you need the EyeTV application running on your Mac.
Similarly, there was a question about accessing your video from a network outside of your home (or whatever), yes, that works as long as you have registered via the My EyeTV service.

There is zero logic to that assertion. It sounds like it came from Fox News.
Not really. The world market share (which, presumably, includes the US) is static. Apple's share in the US, has increased. Therefore, the market share in (some) other countries has decreased.

I bet they make some of that back with deals made with the power companies. These things need to be plugged in.

You could try Openoffice.org for Mac. It's basically very like Microsoft Office only Openoffice.org is free.
Instead try NeoOffice (http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php), as it does not require the horrible X11 :)

Very cool. Perhaps it will finally settle some questions about steve's thought process and private life. I hate how so many stupid assumptions are made vacuously here and presented as fact.
If you'rs referring to the "legacy" comments then you can't be so daft as to ignore the timing of this. First biography authorized by Steve himself... Hope it's just a coincidence.

Hi Guys,
I wanted to get your opinions on something.
Recently, Apple added a whole bunch of free online seminars on it's seminars page (you can get there from the Hot News page).
In a number of the seminar descriptions, they speak about the "awesome power" of the "Power Mac G5 Quad" (which is true), and they keep calling it "new" on more than one occasion (it's close to a year old now).
This is interested to me since there's speculation that the "Mac Pro" will be unveiled at the WWDC (hoping). The release of these seminars, and the fact that they promote the quad and call it "new", means that:
a) They're desperately trying to sell as many of these machines as possible because they haven't sold enough of them and before their Intel counterparts are released, and/or,
b) The new "Mac Pro" quad will not be coming out until the year end - perhaps only a mid-range "Mac Pro" will be unveiled @ the WWDC.
What do you guys think?
Regards,
Filmguy
Those seminars come up periodically. I think they're just on an automatic reload when it comes to the right time.
Apple won't give anything away before an event, especially not days before. The best leaks come a few hours before the event kicks off.

Definitely a fun little get-together. One interesting discovery... and :p are more effective in forums than in the real world. Still, it was nice to be able to speak my mind without fear of being banned.:p
A couple of FYIs - A few people expressed interest in meeting again today at the Horseshoe. There's a "Best of Show" event that ends at 3:45, so the meet-up prolly won't happen until around 4:00.
Also: we discovered that there's a registration table set up right in front of the designated Horseshoe booth. Don't let that deter you... you can walk behind the table to get to the booth.

Just weight an MBA 13, and figure out why it weighs more and costs more.
And if you shrunk the bezel while still using a standard sized display (same cost), the keyboard would stick out the sides, which would look pretty whacky.
I was pretty clear that I wanted a bezel shrink to accommodate a larger screen not to have a smaller laptop.

getting the option to rent movies on itunes will be great. hell even to rent with a burn to disc option would be even better.
I'm happy apple is moving in this direction. however. need them to offer laptops with 160GB hard drives. so we can travel with a whole bunch of movies and tv shows on the hard drive when we are on the go.
yeah i know it's alot of room, but some of us have tons of aac/mp3 files.

Getting a little ahead of ourselves on the GPU?? How about Apple clocking the X1600 at ATI's default speed, first.;)
why is it getting ahead of ourselves?
The ATI or NVidia are both avail, and being sold by competitors.
Why wait to use the best technology? to save money and profit margins?
remember the laptops have the graphics GPU on a small separate card. they can change that, offer different options/models.
I just want the best laptop possible. period.
apple should let us clock the components the way we want. so you and i are both happy. just an idea. i bet overclocking would use more power though. which doesnt matter. 3/4 of the time my laptop is on a plug in power source.

Nothing against the Green Robot; but obviously it will sell more. #'s game doesn't need to be said they surged. I hope it doesnt become a damn thing where Android has like 80% in three years and you only get a couple options.
I think winMO 7 was actually nice when I tried it, and hopefully HP does something with webOS. Rather see a whole bunch of 20% numbers on the board personally.
oh yeah "A future we don't want." right google gaga

I'm sure most of you know of 3rd party utilities that make icons for other types of files [other than pics that OSX does built in]. One neat one that comes to mind is Webseecon which makes icons for URL files. that I'd like to see included in OSX itself!

Thank you

**I thought u had to have it shipped to you if you pre-order and aren't guaranteed to get it by the 24th. Where did you hear you can have it shipped to the store and are guaranteed to have it that day in store?
Is it true also that if you choose to have it delivered to your door you won't get it on the 24th?
I just googled and found this http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2452992&tstart=0

I built a new system with a gigabyte x58a-ud3 and stock cooler, which is massive. It can handle 2 x16 cards, I probably didn't need all that ram though for a single cpu and I already had a 650 psu but if that isn't enough power I will have to swap the 480 into one of the other systems which have 1200 watt psu's.
I have one more 650 psu that I want to use this fall for another build so that I can put the 275 gpu's into the 650 psu builds and 2 each 400 class gpu's into the 1200 watt machines, does that make sense? Anyway I will end up with: 2 builds with 650 watt psu's and 4 gtx 275 gpu's and 2 builds with 1200 watt psu's with 4 400 class gpu's.
My goal is to reach 1 million points per week!
oh ok. so you will primary fold with just 4 systems, or 5?
right now i have 4 primary systems that i'm folding with, and i would love to build another, but not right now with the heat. maybe when it gets colder. sometimes i wish i had a basement to put them!
just so you know, you can fold with a 200 series and 400 series gpu in the same system. it took a little for me to get it to work, but it does.
let us know when you start building another rig. and how the overclock is coming!
