heya,
Man, you Mac fanbois are funny...lol.
I just bought my first Mac two weeks ago, and I'm liking the hardware. But the one thing that does turn me off is the rabid fanboism of the Apple community *sigh*. There are many lovely Apple afficandos out there, but it's the overly vocal minority that turns me off.
It's like the less they know, the louder they shout. I think this thread shows the level of immaturity and ignorance quite well.
Please people, instead of crawling out of your mother's basement to yell "Apple rules! Nokia Sucks!", can you please do some research.
Groklaw has a fairly nice issue on the writeup:
http://www.groklaw.net/articlebasic.php?story=20100828132209651
with an analysis by people probably far more qualified than you.
Nokia's patent complains are largely based on hardware - things like GSM, wireless radio transmission etc. Things that take billions of dollars of R&D, and that you can't really work around if you want to make say...gee...a cellular telephone?
Apple's patents are largely on nice, shiny things, and how certain user elements are arranged on the screen. Yes, they are a master of polish, and they're anally retentive and perfectionist in their products - but don't kid yourselves, it's much easier to work around these "patents" on the look and feel, than it is to make a phone that doesn't infringe on 20 years worth of RF and wireless technology.
And look - a smartphone is a mobile phone, kiddies. It's not some magicaly new device all on its own. At the end of the day, it has a radio transmitter, it connects to the GSM network. It's a cellphone, with PDA functionality built in, ok.
And Apple isn't litigious? What a joke? Apple is one of the more litigious tech companies out there. You compare them to Google, or IBM, or heck, even Microsoft recently, and they make them look like the Mother Teresa of patent generosity. Apple are as bad as Oracle, in my books.
Apple will sue anything left right and centre. Remember their patents on things like "multi-touch", or "touchscreen phones". What a joke. As I said above, I admire Apple (and I'm admiring my new Mac) for it's polish, and a good user experience.
But I'm an engineer by profession, and I don't underestimate how much more hard work it actually takes to create a robust, well-engineered phone that works...as a phone. The whole iPhone 4G antenna fiasco is a classic example - this was something that companies like Nokia, Motorola and RIM have figured out the hard way, with years and years of research and engineering - and it's something that Apple will hopefully catchup to.
Cheers,
victor
I'm not a fanboi. In fact, I've been called a Apple bashing troll here before.
But I have to say... Keep your day job. You're probably a better engineer than you are an analyst. As far as cell phones go...
Apple is suing HTC.
Nokia is suing SEVEN CELL PHONE MANUFACTURERS!
And Apple is counter-suing as a defense mechanism no doubt.
Apple is being sued by at least 4 companies related to cell phones.

$180 more than a PS3. Wow! I can so get a 120 GB OEM drive for LESS THAN $100!
So if I got a PS3 "elite", and got a 120 GB OEM drive, IT'D STILL BE CHEAPER THAN AN ELITE 360! WTF WTF WTF WTF!?!?!?!
Now thats an angry comment if ever i saw one.
Atom Bomb sized moan there!

In which case, how about they tell us? I've been holding off on buying '06 since December because '07 is supposedly imminent. If they told us '07 definitely would not be out until the end of this year, I'd just get my credit card out and purchase '06, but I don't want to do that if '07 will be out in early May. I'm not asking for a detailed feature breakdown, just a quick comment on whether it's going to be out soon or at the same time as Leopard.
Sometimes Apple's stupid secrecy gets to me big time :(
Yeah, in this case I agree. Normally I don't get too worked up about product release-date weirdness--most of the time it's part of the fun--but they put a date on this one for consecutive years and then left us hanging. It seems pretty likely that the rumors of a name change and a Leopard-timed release will prove accurate, and that'll be cool in October or whenever...but that doesn't make the uncertainty of the first quarter of this year any less annoying.

What do Korean's know that the rest of the world don't?
For example, unlike the rest of the world, some Korean's know what's being produced in their factories...

I don't see any Mac drivers, so most likely not possible with OS X.
If you want Mac support, check out Promise.
If you want to save some money, build your own ZFS box based on OpenSolaris or FreeBSD.
It says that it supports Mac right here

My question is: will a Mac recognize all 32TB of storage?

I only have the CoreDuo. Oh well.
I haven't tried so can't verify, but read a comment somewhere earlier that said that SD streamed fine on a Core Duo, just not HD.

thats bullcrap! they could have asked you to turn it off, disconnect from the network. its rediculous how much power we give people in our schools. if this was a person at a job and they had a laptop that they were working on and a person in power said give me that. i doubt it would be given up so easily. its like our high school students have no rights. they can make up any rule and we must obey.

I took this to mean traffic as in network traffic. iOS devices, and all new smartphones, utilize a lot of network traffic. It wouldn't surprise me if they were looking at more robust ways of utilizing traffic, compression, etc. I'm not sure how they would collect traffic data. I suppose if they see a cell signal sitting in the same place for 20 minutes, it would reflect a traffic jam. But then again, they could have parallel parked and went to go grab a Starbucks.
+1. I don't think they meant vehicle traffic, they meant network traffic.

You just served up a meatball to us 11" owners.
It's simple: The 11" is hotness, the 13" is notness.
Or
The 11" ultimate is... The Ultimate.
Kidding aside, I've always bought the smallest and lightest laptops I could find. This is obviously the best one yet. The others, Dells and Compaqs, served me well, but eventually disintegrated into plastic shards. I was very productive with those machines, and none of them had a higher resolution than 1024x768.

The 750 HD option is on the Mac Pro as well as the 24" iMac. If I didn't know any better, I'd say they changed the layout on several of their store pages too.
They changed some of the prices slightly (at least the academic versions). But what I can't figure out is that I configured a MacPro changing to 2 gig ram, bluetooth and wifi, wireless keyboard and mouse and somehow saved $2. what an odd amount.
cheers.
