Not exactly.
From Wikipedia:
"More technically, W-CDMA is a wideband spread-spectrum mobile air interface that utilizes the direct sequence Code Division Multiple Access signalling method (or CDMA) to achieve higher speeds and support more users compared to the older TDMA signalling method of GSM networks. W-CDMA is a competitor to CDMA2000."
Yes, and that doesn't contradict what I said. That's exactly what I said.
And if you look at this presentation on page 9: http://www.ieee.or.com/Archive/diversity_in_3g/diversity_in_3g.pdf
you'll see that the W-CDMA standard did evolve from GSM and CDMA (IS-95).
If that's what it says, it's false. W-CDMA was developed originally for FOMA. It is not a derivative of IS-95, the only thing it has in common with IS-95 is that it, like IS-95, is a CDMA air interface standard.
It certainly didn't "evolve from GSM" either, any more than an electric motor can evolve from a Ford Taurus. GSM is a complete standard. W-CDMA is an air interface standard. Further, GSM has nothing in it at all that that's in W-CDMA.
Many people use W-CDMA as a synonym for UMTS. They're not the same thing. UMTS, 3G GSM, uses W-CDMA, but W-CDMA is an independent standard, and wasn't originally even designed with UMTS in mind.
The relationship is basically UMTS = (Enhanced GSM - FHTDMA) + W-CDMA.
There are a lot of other references out there too, but these are the 2 I have readily available.
Well, one quote confirms what I said, the other is wrong... sorry.
There is no TDMA in UMTS. UMTS uses the W-CDMA air interface standard, as does FOMA. W-CDMA uses an CDMA air interface technology, but was developed independently of IS-95.

I'm really disappointed with these annoucements. Where's the stuff for their computers? Leopard? iLife 07? It just seems like they're pushing into every aspect of the market as quickly as possible. A business is like a tree...ignore the roots, and it'll die. Not that I'm saying Apple's going anywhere, but there a lot of disappointed people.
Yes, things like Apple's move to Intel procs, the purchasing of Silicon Color, and the discounting of Shake (amid rumors of a brand new replacement app) are also recent signs of how Apple is ignoring it's roots.
It just seems ridiculous that they would only announce Apple TV and the iPhone, and nothing else! There's really nothing for anyone - every single person in that room, watching Jobs give his Keynote, without a doubt, has their own phone in their pocket.
Besides phones I'm sure every single person in that room owned a laptop or desktop computer too.

Anyone know if it fixes the problem where iMacs won't wake up with ARD? I have a classroom and sometimes a few don't wake when I try to connect from Remote Desktop.

Apple advantages:
- could be launched in a lot of countries (probably everywhere there currently is an iTunes Store)
Even though the iTunes Store exists in a lot of countries, far from all countries that have the store also have movies on offer. In Switzerland for example, movies only started to being offered last year. In Germany that happened in 2009.
Checking the first six letters of the alphabet (ie, countries starting with a,b,c,d,e,f), only six out of 23 offer movies.

i wonder how much apple pays to assemble these? one would think it's cheaper to put a tower or something similar together than an all in one
Since when does Apple try to lower prices by making something less elegant and appealing to a wide audience? Price is no restrictor (compared to others)!!! :)

Let me just sum this up in advance:
Apple sues someone: "They are protecting their IP/trademarks."
Someone sues Apple: "They are bleeding money and need an Apple handout" or "Patent troll"
Usually this is followed by someone with a 'shareholder' remark since they somehow believe that owning 7 shares of Apple should get them a direct line to the CEO.
If Nokia has had these patents for 10 years before the iPhone, then why didn't they act when the iPhone was first released?

this whole patent thing is really annoying. there should be NO patents.
Completely agree, who gives people the right to patent a name, like in "App store":)
Well, not completely agree, but the way it is in the states just suks, patents should be used for inventions and start using them within the year (or 2) otherwise they lose the that very patent.

Oh Gosh is this guy our version of the Dell Dude.
Hey, I liked the Dell Dude (too bad he got busted)! And I'm glad Justin will be doing more commercials. I think they're great. My fav so far is the one with the psychiatrist. Of course the home movie one is the most pleasing visually. :-)

Oh well, there's a phone for everyone. At least Android fills the gap.
Exactly. I'm by no means saying Android is superior. It has tons of issues; it's no where near perfect. But it works for me.

Hang on there... this is an English sports team we're talking about here, don't forget. Surely there's some way we can still blow it? ;) :p
LOL. I've been thinking that but I can't imagine how unless they get out and their fielding is so bad there are 20 over-throws an over.

so, only about 600 volts this year? seems low.
600 Volt's so far. Production is still ramping up. A dealer in my area I know has sold out of his allotment for the year.

OOoooowwwww...... (well, it looks like it hurts!)
but I have no idea of what those numbers mean...
also , I don't think I have the look to get away with stretching my lobes. :p
nope, plain vanilla 2nd set of holes. For studs. Because wearing 2 sets of hoops at once looks a little .... not my cup of tea, I can't get away with it, either. :p
got pics of your ear? :)
8 gauge is just a bit bigger than pencil size this is the best pic i have so far:
but you can see my eyebrow and labret too!

I don't post here much and don't want to get caught up too much in the hoopla but here is our point of view:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMMGQN2R9UE
I'm not posting a youtube file for self promotion or anything as it's the only video I've ever posted on youtube but it's a crappy made comparison of my 3GS and my wifes 4.
The video's are not altered in any way and they happen to match timing exactly which was cool... Neither phone will completely drop and they are done in my home recliner where we have 100% reception always.
Read the description to the video if you want to know my thoughts I guess : )
FYI, You're description states both the 3gs and Ip4 are on the right.

well, i think it's better to get suspended for like 1 day than giving away your mac, and risking your $1000++
Good point. Way better to get suspended.

Currently, 45% of the electrical power generated in the U.S. is produced by burning coal. Even if cars like the Volt are successful, increased demand for more electric power would likely result in more greenhouse gases being emitted.
Sure, but you have to make the switch to electric at some point. Better now than later. Plus, the Federal Government and even some States are starting to mandate higher alternative energy production. This isn't the solution, but it's a step forward.
